It’s not that hard You have 3 options: Use a factory switch. Use an aftermarket switch. Make your own switch system. Factory switchMost of you will have a hotrod that uses a steering column that has a turn signal switch built in. What you need to do is find the wiring diagram for the vehicle the column came from. Just find it on the internet.
How Three-Way Switches Work
First of all we should connect the ground wires to the box. If the light switch has a ground screw on it usually green and at the bottom of the switch , connect it now. Second twist the two white wires together and screw on a wire nut.

A 3- way switch is used on each end with one or more 4- way switches in between the two 3- way switches. It is important to understand how these switches are wired before attempting to troubleshoot or replace. Below is a conventional wiring diagram for a 4- way switch configuration. The diagrams below show the conventional wiring for 3- way switches in a 4- way configuration. Unfortunately, not all 3- way switches are wired the conventional way.
If you have any problems with these switches, it may be best to call an electrician. Conventional 4- Way Switch Wiring 4- way switches have four terminals each with two pairs of travelers one set usually black and one set usually brass color. A four switch configuration will have two 3- way switches, one on each end and two 4- way switches in the middle. In the diagrams below, the first switch 3- way common terminal connects to line voltage.
The first switch 3- way travelers brass color connect to one pair of the second switch 4- way travelers black or brass color.

Wiring a 2-Way Switch How to wire a 2 way switch. Wiring a 2-way switch is about as simple as it gets when it comes to basic house wiring. First of all we need to go over a little terminology so you know exactly what is being discussed. Hi this is Steve Mccurdy from Leviton Manufacturing. I am here to show you how to install dimmers. Now in this segment we’re going to install a three-way dimmer in a bathroom application that has two entrances.

Remote control from another Insteon device. Insteon devices throughout your home knit together a web of control, enabling some of the most customizable and configurable control options that put even the most expensive home automation technologies to shame. The Infinite 3-Way With traditional wall switches, control from multiple locations, like in a long hallway, requires special dedicated wiring.
Great if you’re building anew, but almost impossible to retrofit. Just a few taps of the set button and you’ve made a 3-way switch. Want to add another? Make it a 4-way – or 5-way. There’s no limit to Insteon’s multiway switching. Anywhere Switch Sometimes you have to wonder what the electrician was thinking when he wired your home.

If the user is unable to perform electrical work themselves, a qualified electrician should be consulted. However, some older metal boxes and most plastic boxes don’t have a terminal like this. Conductors include wires, devices like switches and receptacles, and some other metal parts.

Most light fixtures have two electrical wires with colored insulation and a copper ground wire. An enthusiastic homeowner can save the cost of a professional by knowing which wires connect to which. With this knowledge, you or a family member can do the wiring connections for one or more lights. If the breakers aren’t labeled, ask a family member to turn on the light with the switch as you cycle through the breakers until it goes off. You’ll see white wires at one side of the switch and black wires attached at the other side.
One of the black and white wires goes to the light fixture. The other black and white wires are the electrical circuit for the switch. If the light can be turned on or off from switches at each side of the room, you’ll see a blue wire that connects the electrical circuits for three-way switches. In some cases, it may run through the electrical box where the existing light is installed, but it is only a switch wire and not a wire for the light.
These connect to the corresponding black and white electrical wires that run from the switch to the electrical box where the existing fixture is installed. In addition, there is a bare copper ground wire that connects to a green grounding screw inside the electrical box. While the light only has a black and white electrical wire, some manufacturer’s include an addition wire nut because these are easy to misplace when installing a light. In most cases, the nuts are the same color, such as red, yellow or black.
Again, this depends on the manufacturer, and any color wire nut can be used to connect a corresponding color of electrical and light fixture wires.

Knowing how to wire a light that is controlled by two switches as opposed to one is a helpful skill. It is a little more involved than simply wiring a switch at the end or in the middle of a circuit, mainly because there are more wires and connections involved. If at any time during the process you feel unsure about the steps or worry you might be doing something wrong, you should stop and call an electrician.
This option is very similar to option #1 when wiring a 3 way switch. Here I am showing how to hook some lights up in series. If you need more than two lights, just keep pig-tailing the white and black wires to keep the circuit going.
The term double-throw means that you can connect two separate devices, and each switch position selects one of the two devices. The DPDT switch has two basic forms: This toggle switch functions as a pickup selector on an electric guitar. Step Connect one alligator clip to each wire of the 9-volt battery clip. If the toggle switch has screw terminals, skip this step.
If necessary, use wire strippers to expose enough bare wire on the two wires of the battery clip. Wrap the bare wire around the alligator-clip screw clockwise, and use a screwdriver to tighten each screw.
